New details emerge on Shewaye Molla

Zenaddis – New details are coming out on the story of Shewaye Molla, the Ethiopian maid who has embodied the brutality of the Gaddafi family.

According to the Amharic Weekly Addis Admass, the 30 year old is the third born in the family. She has worked as a maid for about 10 years in various Middle Eastern countries.  Shewaye, who is fluent in Arabic, found the job to the Gaddafi family through an agency who linked her up to the Libyan Embassy in Addis Ababa. The paper also said that she had told her sisters soon after moving to Tripoli that her job was a tough one.

She was reportedly attacked by the wife of Gaddafi’s fourth son Hannibal’s wife Aline Skaf who used to be a Lebanese model. Aline Skaf and husband are among the members of Gaddafi family who are given asylum in Algeria on “ humanitarian grounds.”

Shewaye’s mother Kuri Woldu has been informed of her daughter’s ordeal by neighbors. She is said to have contacted the Libyan Embassy in Addis and the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry.

The Voice of America has transmitted a message of Shewaye Molla addressed to her mother in the Amharic language. Shewaye sent the message through the VOA correspondent in Tripoli Elizabeth Arrott. It is not yet known whether the mother heard the message as VOA Amharic Service is blocked in Ethiopia.

In the message Shewaye tries to downplay her injury apparently to ease her mother’s pain. “Don’t be scared if you happen to see me. If I get your numbers, I will give you a call,” Shewaye told her mother in the message broadcast on VOA. She told her mother the injury is not that serious and insists not to worry. Shewaye repeatedly requests her mother to pray for her.

Shewaye’s family members were interviewed by the Atlanta based Admas Radio Station where Ms Kuri, the mother stated that her daughter travelled to Libya on September 2, 2010. The mother added that Shewaye called her once where she complained about her situation. Ms Kuri said she hasn’t seen any of her daughter’s injuries. She just heard it from the neighbors. The 60 year old also said that Shewaye has been supporting the whole family of seven for the last 12 years.

Her elder sister Misrak told the radio that Shewaye called only once since she had left for Libya. Once she explained to her how Aline was treating her bad, depriving her of sleep by overworking her. The family tried to contact the Libyan Embassy in Addis over their concern to Shewaye. The staff there told them since it is not like any other house in Libya, they couldn’t do anything much. But assured the family of her safety.  Misrak said they saw the latest images of Shewaye but the mother didn’t see them. They also thanked the public for their support.

The Ethiopian maid was found by CNN reporter who set out to do stories on the compound of the Gaddafi family. The defenseless young girl was found in the big compound suffering from a severe burn on her entire body.

CNN has been hailed for telling the world about the horrific blunders committed by the Gaddafi family. The British Prime Minister David Cameron is one of those who spoke out openly against that brutality.
